Lakota Uncrewed Aircraft Systems

Program Outline

The Lakota Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program is divided into two sections: ground school and flight training. The ground school is an introduction to Advanced Air Mobility; drone regulations (Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems), and commercial applications. Flight training consists of basic knowledge, skills, and ability required to safely operate UAS for commercial purposes. Details are provided on the Schedule webpage.

The Lakota UAS program is based on instruction, training, and course materials for the South Dakota State University UAS Certificate and UAS Minor programs. These are part of the Geography and Geospatial Sciences Center of Excellence which is a member of the Federal Aviation Administration UAS-Collegiate Training Initiative.

About Us

The program organizers are educators with the Oglala Lakota College, Lower Brule High School, and South Dakota State University Geography and Geospatial Sciences Department. Our interest is advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education with small uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS).
